Skin Cancer : Awareness and Types


Skin cancer is the most common form of Cancer in the United States of America. The deadliest type of skin cancer is ‘ melanoma’. Melanoma is caused  by exposure to ultraviolet rays of the sun, tanning beds, or sunlamps. UV rays are a form of unseeable radiation that can perforate your skin and change skin cells. Mainly, There are three types of UV rays UVA, UVB, and UVC- of these UVA rays are considered as the most dangerous when it comes to increasing the  risk of skin cancer.




PREVALENCE
According to American cancer society, from 76690 Americans, nearly 60 % of them were diagnosed with melanomas of the skin in 2013.
And another 5,880 were diagnosed with non-epithelial skin cancer, such as Sarcomas.
As per the report of ACS, nearly 12,000 Americans die each year because of melanomas and non-epithelial skin cancer.


Types of Skin Cancer :

Skin cancer has  several types, some of its types are :
Melanoma - A melanoma is cancerous growth and most frequently it develops in the skin.
Melanoma can occur in any part of the body that contains Melanocyte cells, including the digestive tract, lymph,  eyes,  and nodes.


Squamous Cell Carcinoma - SCC get appears on that part of the body which has experienced higher exposure of sun including the lips, face,  and back.  lesions can appear rough, scaly, lumpy and they may bleed easily. 





Basal Cell Carcinoma -  This is the most commonly diagnosed skin cancer type. It gets develops on that part of the body which gets regular sun exposure. But Fortunately, it spreads rarely and usually treatable.
SCC gets spread more easily than BCC.


Merkel Cell Carcinoma- It is a rare type of skin cancer and also known as neuroendocrine carcinoma.  lesions can be flesh colored and blush Red.


Kaposi Sarcoma-  Its lesions grows under the skin, in the lining of mouth, nose and, throat or in other body organs.
In recent years, it has also been associated with HIV/AIDS. KS lesions typically appear red or purple. They may be painful.
